Zoom®
Bridge Spans The Grand Canyon
New Wireless Point-to-Point
Bridge Has 2.5-mile Range and is Priced at Under $2,000
Boston, MA, March 21, 2001 — Zoom Telephonics
(NASDAQ: ZOOM)
is now shipping a complete wireless LAN-to-LAN bridging system
at a retail price of $1,999, significantly less than competitive
products. The ZoomAir Model 4130 bridge can be used as a replacement
for a leased data line or a wired connection between buildings.
Data rates are from 11 Mbps to 5.5 Mbps, depending upon the
distance bridged. The ZoomAir Wireless LAN-to-LAN
Bridge Kit Model 4130 is a complete solution, with all components
necessary to maintain a connection between two Local Area
Networks (LANs). The Model 4130 includes two ZoomAir Wireless
LAN-to-LAN Bridge Radio Units, two ZoomAir High-Gain (13.0
dBi) Directional Antennas, and all cables, mounting hardware
and software needed for installation and configuration. ZoomAir
wireless networking products operate in the unlicensed 2.4
GHZ radio spectrum and conform to the IEEE 802.11b standard.
The ZoomAir Wireless LAN-to-LAN Bridge provides a money-saving
alternative to other solutions between two distant locations
anywhere a line-of-sight connection can be established within
the bridge's range. At press time the $1999 retail cost of
the ZoomAir Model 4130 was less than half that of competing
wireless bridges. When compared to a wired connection, installation
of the ZoomAir Wireless Bridge is almost always quicker and
less expensive. And unlike a leased T1 phone line, the ZoomAir
Bridge is owned by the user, so there are no recurring monthly
charges. The Model 4130 provides high performance,
with an unobstructed line-of-sight range of up to 2.5 miles
(enough to span the Grand Canyon) at a data rate of 5.5 Mbps.
Data security is provided by ZoomAir's enhanced 128-bit RC4
and 64-bit WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) encryption.
A ZoomAir Wireless LAN-to-LAN Bridge is easy to install and
configure. The ZoomAir Bridge is managed with an embedded
graphical user interface (GUI). Configuration and management
options include input from a console attached directly to
the bridge, or remote input using and through the attached
Local Area Network using any browser software. "The
ZoomAir Wireless LAN-to-LAN Bridge is a key part our comprehensive
range of affordable, high performance, business-oriented wireless
networking products," said Terry Manning, Zoom's Vice-President
of Sales and Marketing. "The Model 4130 dramatically
lowers the cost of wireless building-to-building network bridges
and is a great solution for businesses and organizations of
all sizes." The 11 Mbps ZoomAir Wireless LAN
product line also includes the Model 4100 PC Card NIC (Network
Interface Card), the Model 4105 PCI NIC, the Model 4110 Access
Point Software, the Model 4120 Hardware Access Point, plus
optional antennas to extend wireless network coverage.
