INNOVATIVE
ZOOM V.92 PROGRAM PRAISED BY ISP'S
Boston, MA, July 18, 2002 — Zoom Telephonics,
Inc. (NASDAQ: ZOOM)
announced today that Internet Service Providers are receiving
a welcome assist from Zoom Telephonics. Zoom's ISP Program
provides technical and marketing assistance to the providers
which have taken an early lead in introducing the new standard.
With the program, ISP's have found they can quickly qualify
V.92 performance and use the new service as a customer acquisition
tool and a source for new revenue. Elements of the
Program include:
- Evaluation units and preferred technical support
- Cooperative advertising funds for V.92 promotion
- Creative modem sales programs tailored for ISP's
The program has received high praise from participants.
"With Zoom's program, I was able to test, qualify and
approve V.92 modems with my head end equipment before working
with Zoom on a marketing launch.", said Joel Duetterman,
President of Velocity, a Pennsylvania ISP with 10,000 subscribers.
"As a result, I've signed on thousands of new customers
to new annual contracts and taken market share from my largest
competitor." "I never expected this level
of support from a manufacturer", said Don Crowley, President
of CNY Internet, a New York ISP. "This should allow us
to become the first ISP in our area to support V.92 features
like Modem on Hold. This allows us to compete for second line
payments now going to the telephone company as well as allowing
us to aggressively compete with larger ISP's."
Zoom has done extensive interoperability testing with all
major manufacturers of head end equipment. Experienced technicians
have been assigned by Zoom to share setup information and
the results of Zoom's interoperability experience with ISP's.
Advertising programs offered by Zoom can be used by
ISP's to reduce the cost of advertising V.92 service. Service
Providers receiving the ad funds are required to recommend
Zoom Modems. ISP's who choose to sell modems can either
purchase modems directly from Zoom, purchase through Zoom
distributors, or use a virtual storefront which eliminates
the expense of shipping, warehousing and order fulfillment.
By selling Zoom modems to subscribers, an ISP controls the
quality of the customer's equipment to ensure a satisfactory
customer experience with V.92. In addition, Zoom protects
the existing ISP customer base with special modem packages
that do not contain sign-up offers from competing Internet
services. For additional Zoom ISP Program information,
