| Zoom Begins Shipping
VoIP Products To Nationwide Retailers
VoIP ADSL modems with bundled
Global Village™ service ship to leading computer
retailers
Boston, MA, September 23, 2004 -
Zoom Technologies [NASDAQ: ZOOM],
announced that today it began shipping the first product
in its ZoomTel™ Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
product line to five prominent U.S. computer products retailers – CDW,
CompUSA, Micro Center, PC Connection, and PC Mall.
The first product in the ZoomTel line is the ADSL X5v, a
DSL modem with a built-in VoIP jack that lets users make
VoIP calls using “plain old telephones.”. The
X5v is bundled with Zoom’s Global Village VoIP phone
service, which offers users a unique pay-as-you-go way to
discover the revolutionary benefits of VoIP.
With the X5v and Global Village, users can make free VoIP
to VoIP calls right out of the box. They can also register
for one of several Global Village calling plans that provide
low-cost direct dial service to virtually any phone in the
world, including a pay-as-you-go service with no monthly
minimum service charge. Global Village also offers unlimited
dialing plans. Other VoIP companies typically require an
advance payment and a monthly charge.
In addition, the X5v’s VoIP jack effectively provides
two-line capability for DSL users, allowing customers to
make VoIP or regular calls over a single DSL-enabled phone
line.
“
We are pleased with the support our first VoIP product has
received from prestigious computer product retailers in the
U.S.,” said Frank Manning, President of Zoom Technologies. “The
X5v makes it easy for people to try VoIP while enjoying the
benefits of a powerful multi-function DSL modem. We welcome
comparisons to Vonage and AT&T’s offerings, because
we provide powerful, easy-to-use VoIP without requiring customers
to sign up for a monthly commitment.”
